President Abinader inaugurates new Gerdau Metaldom Industrial Warehouse

Santo Domingo - President Luis Abinader inaugurated the new industrial warehouse of the company Gerdau Metaldom and its new administrative offices, which consolidated all the operations of said company in the Duarte Industrial Park, with an investment of more than 900 million pesos.

The president lit up the new 12,500-square-meter industrial warehouse together with the Minister of Industry, Trade and MSMEs, Víctor Bisonó, the Director General of Customs, Eduardo Sanz, and the executive president of Gerdau Metaldom, Jefferson Marko, which has a new pipeline line with an installed capacity of 60 thousand tons per year and a coil slitting line with an installed capacity that can reach 72 thousand tons of cut ribbons.

"Today, we share with you the culmination of efforts and investments that we have been making during the last two years, so that Dominicans can proudly say that they have in their country the most productive steel company in the entire region," said Jefferson Marko, executive president of Gerdau Metaldom.

Marko took the opportunity to guarantee that Gerdau Metaldom has the capacity to supply 100% of the Dominican market and also be able to export to more than 30 destinations in the Caribbean and Central American islands, for which he thanked President Abinader for the support he gives to national industries. "Today Gerdau Metaldom has the capacity to supply not only the entire Dominican market, but also to export our products to the Caribbean and Central American islands. And your presence here, Mr. President, reaffirms the commitment that the State has to bet on the national industry, to bet on exports and to bet on the generation of quality jobs in the Dominican Republic," he added.

The steel company today directly employs more than 800 people and indirectly employs more than 2,200. Despite the difficulties caused by the pandemic, they managed to maintain 100% of these jobs and end 2020 with more than 600 thousand tons of steel in local and international markets.

Gerdau Metaldom is the main company in the manufacture of finished steel products in the Dominican Republic, with an installed capacity of more than one million tons per year. The company has a production plant in the Duarte Industrial Park in Santo Domingo and also has a generating plant on the Malecón in Santo Domingo, as well as distribution centers in Costa Rica and Puerto Rico, thus serving the Dominican market and that of Central America and the Caribbean.
