Santo Domingo.- The steel multinational Gerdau Metaldom opened the doors to the first generation of women in the operational areas of the company, as part of the construction of a diverse and inclusive culture, with a focus on gender equality. The company reported that since last year it has been working on the creation of a physical structure in the operational areas to be able to integrate women in these tasks that are part of the organization's diverse and inclusive approach.
"Gerdau Metaldom breaks paradigms with the insertion of a team of women in our operational areas. Now you are part of a select group of women of steel called to generate the necessary changes for a better and more diverse organizational culture," explained Marcos Matiello, director of operations of Gerdau Metaldom to the new members. In February last year, Gerdau Metaldom sealed its commitment to gender equality with the signing of the "Igualando RD" agreement, coordinated by the Ministry of Women and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).
These institutions, with the support of the Ministry of Labor, have developed a Quality Management Model for Gender Equality (MGIG) for large companies, SMEs and organizations in the country, which increases competitiveness and productivity, and promotes actions and policies at the public and private levels to eliminate gender gaps and increase participation and equal labor opportunities between women and men. Daysi Pérez and Rosa Iris Ulloa will perform their functions in the electrode areas, while Aureliza Medina and Hayalivy Tejeda in flat finished products.
The new generation of women in the operation showed their enthusiasm and gratitude for this program, while calling on other companies to emulate the initiative.
Gerdau Metaldom is the main company in the manufacture of finished steel products in the Dominican Republic, with an installed capacity of more than one million tons per year."
